WYLIE ISD trustees readopted a resolution required by House Bill 3 and related cleanup legislation to document the district’s campus safety approach.

Staff explained that after the 2018 legislative changes, House Bill 3 required districts to adopt either a uniformed police presence at each campus or an alternative plan; the district earlier adopted a hybrid model that combines school resource officers, Texas School Marshals and other trained security alternatives. The presenter said the recent legislative session included follow-up changes (cited as House Bill 33 and House Bill 121 in the presentation) that refined training requirements for alternative personnel and required annual readoption of the resolution.

“We were kind of ahead of the ticket on that,” the presenter said, describing Wylie ISD’s program and noting the state has highlighted the district’s hybrid approach as an example. Staff told trustees the district received increased school-safety funding and that the hybrid model remains the district’s chosen compliance path. Trustees voted to readopt the resolution for the current year.

Staff noted the district must ensure alternative personnel meet updated training requirements and said administrators completed much of the necessary training work ahead of the statutory deadlines. No new funding requests or major program changes were proposed at the meeting.
