Glencoe wins $1.7 million grant for Green Bay Trail engineering; clubhouse project and subdivision permitting advance

Village staff told the Glencoe Village Board they received a $1,700,000 grant to fund engineering work on a stretch of the Green Bay Trail between South Avenue and Hazel Avenue and that the village will use the funds to advance design, engineering and community outreach.

Workforce or project staff said the grant will require engineering and resident outreach; the project is in early stages and will include additional public engagement and technical design. Staff said the trail segment will require engineering work and that outreach plans are being developed to solicit resident input.

Staff also reported ongoing capital projects: a clubhouse groundbreaking has occurred and work is proceeding, and staff said they are close to issuing the first permit for a new subdivision (referred to in the presentation as Baxter). The planning team reported that the planning commission had provided feedback on street-scape, parking and a draft stand-alone document, and that the commission had agreed to prioritize a planned‑unit‑development (PUD) ordinance; the commission will continue discussion on July 23 on specific PUD regulations and exterior appearance review.

Public safety and parks staff updates noted that seasonal staffing and renovations are ongoing and that public safety officers have been moved back into renovated dorm spaces while the council chamber construction finishes. Staff said the village will share schedules and updates with the board as projects progress.
