The Abington Board of School Directors voted Aug. 26 to approve the district’s 2025–26 Title I schoolwide plans for Highland, Overlook, Roslyn and Willow Hill schools and authorized the superintendent or a designee to submit the plans to the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
The vote came after district staff described Title I as a federal program that “is used to support students who have needs specific to socioeconomic income,” and explained the district’s process for identifying schools that qualify for Title I funding under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
Why it matters: Title I funds are targeted federal dollars meant to support schools with higher concentrations of low-income students; schoolwide plans set priorities and describe how the schools will use those funds to address academic needs. District staff said the district-wide free-and-reduced-price-lunch rate used for that determination last year was 31 percent, and that the four schools named exceeded the district average.
Board members heard reports from building leaders earlier in the meeting on assessment trends and school goals that feed into the Title I plans, including targeted reading and math interventions, family engagement strategies and professional development. The board then moved and approved the recommendation to adopt the Title I schoolwide plans.
The board’s approval was unanimous. The action directs the administration to submit the documents to the Pennsylvania Department of Education in the manner the department prescribes.
