Groves staff highlights $30,000 remote-control mower as cheaper, faster, safer alternative

A city staff member told the Groves City Council Aug. 11 that crews are testing a remote-control brush-hog mower obtained as a demonstration model for about $30,000. The staff member said that replacing the aging tractor-and-side-boom mower outright would have cost about $174,000.
The staff member said the remote unit “does it much faster,” cutting the time to mow the city circuit from roughly three to three-and-a-half weeks to about five to six days. He also said the machine improves safety for operators and motorists when compared with a tractor operating on rights-of-way.
Council members had no action on the report; the item was presented as an informational update. Staff said they would respond to public comments and clarify details for residents who had raised questions about the equipment.
