The City Council approved resolution R25‑067 to standardize several lease terms for parklets in Old Town. The measure passed 6–0 with Council member Ambrose excused.
Council member Marriott said parklets have benefitted Old Town but raised concerns that parklets are inconsistent in quality, with some lacking proper flooring or sit on uneven asphalt. Marriott asked staff to consult with the Old Town Business Improvement District (BID) and affected businesses before implementing a renewed lease approach, noting the perceived inequity of charging similar rents for parklets of differing condition.
Council member Pfeiffer sought clarification on the fee structure; staff confirmed the rent is assessed at $1 per square foot for a six‑month billing period (effectively $2 per square foot annually for the two billing periods), and staff explained operational programs for repair and response to complaints. Council member Davis raised concerns about parklets that encroach on sidewalks and urged staff to work with businesses to ensure pedestrian access is preserved.
Council approved the amended lease language and asked staff to coordinate with the BID and inspect parklets to address maintenance and equity concerns before new leases are executed.
