Board restores tax-exempt status to VFW post at new location

The Davis County Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals on Aug. 14 granted a property-tax exemption request for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3321 at 409 East Main after a brief presentation and confirmation that the post previously held exempt status at a sold property.
Steven Michael Heschelman, representing VFW Post 3321, said the post had closed its prior canteen and sold the former building for financial reasons, then purchased a new building and filed exemption paperwork on the new property. "We did file our exemption status when we purchased the building," Heschelman told the board.
The assessor's office recommended granting the exemption and the board moved to approve it; a roll-call vote was unanimous. The board recorded no additional conditions in the hearing. The post may proceed under the usual reporting requirements for tax-exempt organizations.
