Shannon Velaro, a member of Parents and Community Connection (PAC), told the council her group seeks to strengthen ties between Woodland Park Junior/Senior High School and the wider community and invited residents to homecoming events scheduled for late September. PAC asked residents to line the streets for a Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, Sept. 24, starting at 6 p.m. at the junior/senior high and ending at Merritt with a community bonfire.
Velaro said the weeklong activities run Sept. 22 through Sept. 26 and include a color run at 3 p.m. Sept. 26 for students in grades 7–12; proceeds will go to student enrichment and teacher appreciation such as classroom projects, PE equipment and field trips. She also described a cross‑country “game ball run” that will start at Summit Elementary, pass Columbine Elementary and finish at Panther Stadium before the evening football game — which the speaker said will pit Woodland Park against Rye High School.
Velaro asked community members and businesses to consider sponsoring students or donating to participants. She also relayed a volunteer notice that seniors pay $5 at high school athletic events and encouraged attendance. The council received the information as a public comment; no council action was taken.
