Foundation announces back-to-school bash and community partners for start of school

Sam Moore, representing the District 124 Foundation, told the board on Aug. 13 that the foundation will hold a back‑to‑school bash on the first day of school at Central from 5:30 to 7 p.m., featuring activities, characters and community resources.
Moore said the event will include the phon(e) pit activity, a DJ, the high school band and possibly the high school dance team, and visits from costumed characters. He emphasized that "everything we offer... are all for free," and that families would only pay for any food or drink they choose to purchase.
Moore thanked longstanding sponsors including Laurie Taekwondo, Peace of Mind Organizing, Astound Broadband, Old Second National Bank/Evergreen Bank Group, the Center for Self Actualization, State Farm (Sean Collie's office), Culver's and the American Legion. New sponsors announced at short notice include Sylvan Learning Center, Family Dental Care and Midwest Express Clinic. Community partners such as the library, Cub Scouts, the recreation department and the district's Special Education Family Advisory Council will also attend.
