DuPage HSD 88 honors Leslie Diaz and Eddie Devins as ‘District 88’s Best’ recipients

The DuPage HSD 88 Board of Education recognized two students — Leslie Diaz of Addison Trail High School and Eddie Devins of Willowbrook High School — as the district’s District 88’s Best recipients for the month.
Addison Trail administrators highlighted Diaz’s leadership across mock trial, the school news channel (including Spanish news), Key Club (vice president), National Honor Society, yearbook co‑editor, varsity tennis, orchestra and academic rigor (11 Advanced Placement courses and six honors courses). Mr. Andrews presented a series of comments from teachers and sponsors describing Diaz as outgoing, industrious and service‑oriented. Diaz told the board she wants to study political science and become an attorney and thanked administrators, teachers and her family for support.
Willowbrook’s recipient, Eddie Devins, was introduced by Mr. Sullivan and other Willowbrook staff. Presenters described Devins as the founder and lead of the Willowbrook Media Team, lead broadcaster, podcast host and an active participant in athletics, theater and Project Lead The Way medical courses. Devins spoke to the board to thank parents, coaches and teachers and said a human-body-systems course solidified his interest in medicine.
Both students received certificates and small awards; the board hosted a short reception and a brief recess to allow board members to meet the students and families.
Why it matters: The recognitions showcase student leadership, academic rigor and extracurricular contributions. Board members and presenters linked the awards to district priorities including student service, bilingual outreach and career/college readiness.
