DuPage HSD 88 approves $581,477 technology purchase and buys minivan for transition program

The DuPage HSD 88 Board of Education approved the purchase of student and staff devices and a high-capacity storage system, and separately approved the purchase of a used vehicle for the district—s transition program.

The board approved a motion to purchase 1,240 Lenovo 300e Yoga Chromebooks (for incoming freshmen), accompanying Google licenses, 100 Yoga 7 staff laptops (part of a four-year replacement cycle), and a Synology FlashStation FS6400 storage area network at a combined price recorded in the motion as $581,477. The district received proposals from eight vendors; the motion accepted the lowest-price proposal as presented in the board packet and approved the purchase.

Separately, the board approved the purchase of a previously owned 2020 Ford Transit Connect XLT for the transition program at a cost of $24,673. The vehicle was inspected by an Addison Trail auto teacher and the purchase is from Roche Ford; funds to purchase the vehicle were identified as coming from the IDEA grant. Because the vehicle is used and purchased through a dealer, the staff said the purchase did not require formal public bidding.

Board members recorded roll-call votes on both items and approved the motions as presented. The technology purchase was presented as part of a planned replacement cycle for staff devices (25% refreshed annually) and as equipment for incoming freshmen for the 2025-26 school year. The storage system was described as a high-performance, scalable solution to support virtualized servers, backups, and disaster recovery.

The board packet noted that proposals for the technology and storage equipment were received from multiple vendors; the motion accepted the district—s lowest-price proposer as shown in the packet. The board did not add contingency funding or additional conditions to the motion at the time of approval.
