District updates MTSS, Renaissance STAR use and highlights attendance gains in high school

Trustees approved updates to the Dixon USD 170 district improvement plan and heard staff report on coordinated MTSS work and attendance gains at the high school.
Jared, who presented the district-level updates, said the plan adds steps to expand the district's MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) processes and to provide Renaissance STAR assessment training to new and existing teachers. "By the end of 25-26 school year, all K-5 teachers will be provided professional development from Renaissance on [the intervention monitoring platform]," Jared said, noting the platform will help teachers track interventions and transfer information from grade to grade.
The plan also calls for distributing an MTSS guidebook in September, strengthening intervention processes to reduce unnecessary special-education referrals and to ensure consistent evaluation before a formal referral. Jared noted the district's special-education share is approximately 6 percentage points above the state average and said a rigorous intervention process is a key strategy to serve students early.
Administrators also reported a modest but meaningful increase in high-school attendance this year: from 89.09% in the prior year to 90.63%. Jared said the gain represents thousands of additional class periods attended across the school year and that improved attendance correlates with higher grade-point averages and graduation outcomes.
The board approved the district improvement plan update and will continue targeted professional development and coaching work for adopted curricula, mid-school math, and intervention systems. Administrators said they would report back on MTSS implementation and attendance metrics during the school year.
