Director Taggart and project staff updated the board on summer construction activity at Murray High School and the junior high. Taggart reported the teams completed sewer and electrical connections (including a large chase in a faculty area), and that masons are expected to begin masonry work in mid-September. At the high school, a permanent bus pick-up location has been established on the south side of the parking lot between the daycare and the temporary entrance.
At the junior high, crews completed casting beds for tilt-up concrete wall panels and are preparing to stand panels with a 300-ton crane that will arrive on multiple semis; administrators said the panels could be raised in September. Work includes underground plumbing, electrical and tilt-wall panel casting; staff emphasized that temporary construction elements (casting beds) can appear closer to traffic lanes than final walls will be.
Administrators also discussed planned asbestos abatement and window replacements to be staged next summer, ahead of building demolition scheduled for May 2027. Taggart credited contractors and the commissioning team for progress and noted a plan to replace remaining windows with temporary solutions to allow safe abatement and maintain building function until demo.
Board members asked about parking capacity during construction; Taggart said pre-construction stall counts showed the district will retain sufficient stalls and may ask users to walk slightly further. Administrators warned against students entering active construction areas and requested principals remind students the sites are off-limits and trespass is criminal for safety reasons.
