At its May 7 meeting the Salem County Board of Commissioners read and adopted ceremonial proclamations recognizing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week and Older Americans Month.
A presenter read a proclamation designating May 18–24, 2025, as EMS Week with the theme “EMS, we care for everyone,” noting that EMS providers “are ready to provide life saving care to those in need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week” and that EMS includes “first responders, including EMTs, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, public officers, educators, administrators, prehospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers.”
The board also proclaimed May 2025 as Older Americans Month, recognizing the county’s older residents and urging the community to “celebrate our older adults” and work to build services that support aging in place. The proclamation text as read emphasized opportunities to engage older adults through education, recreation and volunteerism and encouraged residents to “accept the challenge of flexible thinking around aging.”
These proclamations were presented during the special recognitions portion of the meeting; they are ceremonial acknowledgements and do not create a new legal program or budget obligation.
