The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the district's new online program the Conroe Virtual School during its Aug. 5 special meeting.

Trustee May moved to name the program "Conroe Virtual School;" the motion was seconded and carried 7-0 on a hand vote. Trustees discussed alternatives and potential abbreviations; Trustee May and others noted concerns about the acronym "CVS" and suggested using "TCVS" was an option but ultimately chose the full name that aligns with other Conroe ISD school names.

Dr. Landry said the district had received public input and presented multiple naming options for trustees to consider. After the vote, a board member asked the communications department to begin work on branding, including mascots and school colors. Dr. Landry confirmed the communications team would begin that work immediately.

The vote concludes the naming portion of the agenda; the board did not take additional action on program curriculum, staffing or enrollment at this meeting. Trustees said they view the virtual school as a "unique opportunity for a lot of students" and tied the move to recently passed legislation that enables virtual program development. No effective opening date or enrollment plan was provided in the public portion of the meeting.
