SHAC membership committee reports surge to 142 new applications; committee to recommend balanced slate to board

The Conroe ISD SHAC membership committee told the council it received 142 new applications for SHAC membership (not including renewal applications) and will review them after the June 30 application deadline.
Committee members said the number—far higher than last year’s roughly 60 new applicants—reflects increased interest. The committee noted a bylaw recommendation of 31 members as a guideline rather than a strict cap and said it will aim to balance renewals and new appointments and consider which feeders or geographic areas are underrepresented.
"We have a 140 plus app 142. 142 applicants. ... That's not including renewals here. So last year, we had, like, 60, I think. So that's a huge jump in interest in the SHAC," a membership committee presenter said. The committee will meet after June 30 to begin reviewing applications and will forward recommendations to the board for final appointment.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; the membership committee scheduled a follow-up meeting to process applications and make recommendations to the board.
