A committee member reported that a bill "passed the House and the Senate" and is now "just to the governor" for signature or no action. The group said the district is reviewing several education bills and that the school board recently considered an updated district policy to disallow cell-phone use from the beginning to the end of the school day; that policy is expected to appear on an upcoming board agenda.
"It passed in both. It's only governor," one participant said, describing the bill's status. Another member asked whether the change would be enforced "starting this coming school year," and staff answered that district legal and policy teams are reviewing the complexities and implications before implementation guidance is provided.
SHAC recorded no formal action on the matter during the meeting; members characterized the discussion as an informational update and noted the district will coordinate with school board policy updates as the state’s final action becomes clear.
