Conroe ISD trustees move into closed session to interview superintendent candidates; no action taken

Conroe Independent School District trustees met in a special session Aug. 21, 2025, and recessed into closed session to interview candidates for superintendent, the board’s presiding officer said.

The closed session was held under Texas Government Code §551.074, which governs deliberations about personnel matters. “No action will be taken in closed session,” the presiding officer said before the board left open session.

The meeting opened at about 8:38 a.m. and included a pledge led by Trustee Horton. Trustees skipped the citizen-participation agenda item and then went into closed session to consider agenda item No. 3, described by the board as interviews of superintendent candidates. The board returned to open session at 2:41 p.m. and adjourned with no further business.

There were no motions or votes recorded in open session on the superintendent interviews, and the board did not announce interviews’ outcomes or next steps during the public portion of the meeting. The district did not release candidate names or interview details during the session.

Because Texas Government Code §551.074 permits personnel deliberations in closed session, the board’s substantive interview discussion occurred out of public view. The public record from this meeting therefore contains only the board’s open-session actions: calling the special meeting, entering closed session for superintendent interviews, reconvening and adjourning.

The special meeting notice and any subsequent public actions (such as scheduling further public meetings, announcing finalists, or voting on an appointment) would be expected to appear in future board agendas or minutes if the board takes public action.
