The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 5 introduced an ordinance authorizing the creation of the Hunterdon County Improvement Authority and set a public hearing for Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m.

County officials described the proposed authority as an independent financing entity intended to help municipalities undertake infrastructure projects at lower interest rates by leveraging the county’s bond rating for borrowing and lease‑purchase agreements. That structure, staff said, could reduce capital costs for municipalities and support shared services and intergovernmental partnerships.

The board moved to introduce Ordinance 2025‑17 and set the public hearing date by motion; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call.

No formal financing or project approvals were adopted at the introduction; the ordinance sets the framework for the authority’s creation and requires a subsequent public hearing and vote before final adoption.
