The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 5 adopted two capital ordinances and approved multiple capital contracts and equipment purchases.
The board adopted Capital Ordinance 2025‑15, appropriating $5,000,000 from the capital fund balance to complete construction of the North Campus at the Hunterdon County Vocational School (Polytech). The public hearing on the ordinance was opened and closed at the meeting prior to adoption; the board recorded a roll call in favor of the appropriation.
The board also adopted Capital Ordinance 2025‑16, appropriating $1,300,000 from the capital improvement fund for improvements to the Route 12 County Complex. A public hearing was held and closed before the vote.
Separately, the board awarded a construction contract for County Bridge Q48 — Cool Road over the branch of the Neshanic/Deshantick River in Raritan Township — to State Line Construction Company. The contract award cited a total amount not to exceed $2,743,626.50; the motion passed by roll call.
County staff also presented and the board approved a set of capital equipment procurements identified in the 2025 capital budget, including:
- a new boiler for the Administration Building (McCloskey Mechanical Contractors) — $114,597.67;
- a backhoe (Powerco/Powercup vendor listed) for the bridge department — $163,670.22;
- a Mason dump truck chassis (Nielsen Ford) — $60,638.58; and
- a Chevrolet Tahoe for the prosecutor’s office (Geminis Chevrolet) — $56,464.59.
Board members emphasized that no new debt would be issued specifically to fund the Polytech and Route 12 projects; the Polytech appropriation was drawn from the capital fund balance and the Route 12 appropriation from the capital improvement fund. Commissioners recorded aye votes on each measure during roll call.
County staff said several of the projects had been planned and identified in the 2025 capital budget. The bridge replacement contract and equipment awards will proceed under standard procurement and construction oversight processes; staff will report back to the board on project timing and any change orders.
