Arlington ISD trustees approved four administrative appointments Aug. 21, promoting leaders to campus principal and assistant-principal roles.

Superintendent Doctor Smith introduced the appointees after the board voted to approve the individuals discussed in closed session. "I'll turn it over to Doctor Smith," the president said before the announcement. Trustees then approved the slate by unanimous voice vote after a motion from Trustee McMorrow and a second from Trustee Wilbanks.

The appointees and backgrounds announced: Raven Jackson was named principal of Mary Moore Elementary; Doctor Smith said Jackson brings experience in instructional coaching and elementary classroom teaching and holds a master's in educational leadership. Yolanda Riley Raley was named principal at Pope Elementary; Doctor Smith said she has nearly two decades of elementary experience and a master's in educational leadership. Herman Kilgore was named assistant principal at Ashworth Elementary and was described as having more than 20 years of elementary and middle-school experience with advanced degrees in education, business and health-systems management. Christina Flowers was named assistant principal at Miller Elementary; Doctor Smith said Flowers has more than 15 years of teaching and leadership experience and a strong background in general and special education.

Each appointee briefly addressed the board. Raven Jackson thanked family and the community and said, "I am truly excited to lead Mary Moore into this next chapter, and I am committed to doing the work to help all of our students thrive." Yolanda Riley Raley thanked the board and said she was "grateful to my executive directors" and ready to "build on the momentum." Herman Kilgore and Christina Flowers each expressed gratitude and commitment to supporting students and staff at their new campuses.

The board's formal vote followed a motion: Trustee McMorrow moved approval of "the individuals discussed in closed session," Trustee Wilbanks seconded, and the president announced unanimous approval.
