The board heard a report on Aug. 7 that the Resource Enhancement and Protection Committee favorably reported an Iowa City grant application proposing prairie and timber restoration on a newly acquired parcel at the northeast corner of Hickory Hill Park.
The chair said the application, if successful, would allow the city to restore prairie and timber on land it recently acquired that had been used as hayfield; Tammy from Iowa City Parks and Recreation noted that the parcel may already appear to some residents as part of the park because it is adjacent. The committee's positive recommendation moves the application on to the state-level review process.
The board did not take formal action on the grant at the Aug. 7 meeting; the report was informational about the REAP committee's favorable action and the city's pending state grant application.
