Mandy Coats, director of Johnson County Veterans Affairs, told the Johnson County Board of Supervisors Sept. 10 that the Solon American Legion will host the traveling Wall of Remembrance from Thursday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 21.
The traveling wall lists the names of more than 10,000 U.S. service members and includes names of law enforcement, firefighters, first responders and civilians lost in attacks associated with the Global War on Terror, Coats said. "The traveling wall is meant to be a healing tool for those affected by the Global War on Terror," she said.
Coats said the wall will be escorted from Davenport by the National Guard, law enforcement, firefighters and motorcycle groups, and that the National Guard plans to land a UH‑72 Lakota rotary‑wing aircraft on the ball field for a formal ceremony at noon on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event will be free and open to the public; Coats said she would be on site Thursday and Saturday and invited the public to attend.
The board did not take formal action on the announcement; the item was part of the public comment portion of the work session.
