Johnson County supervisors discussed vacancies on the county’s Juvenile Justice and Youth Development Policy Board and said appointments will be considered at the board’s next formal meeting. The board has five open seats: four categorized for business/parents/residents/youth and one reserved for a representative of a social service agency. Supervisors were told three seats are for full three-year terms beginning Oct. 1, 2025, and ending Sept. 30, 2028; one seat is a partial term expiring Sept. 30, 2027.
Krista Birch, communications assistant, told the supervisors the county advertised the openings from May 30 to Aug. 28 and that there are two incumbents being considered for reappointment and one new applicant. She said one term will remain unfilled after the current review and the county will re-advertise that vacancy. "We advertised this, from May 30 to August 28. 5 vacancies exist," Birch said during the Sept. 9 work session.
The discussion produced no formal vote. Supervisors agreed staff would email the candidate materials and the reappointments and new application will be placed on the next week’s formal agenda for action. The transcript indicates no other direction, and no appointments were made during the work session.
Why it matters: the Juvenile Justice and Youth Development Policy Board advises county leaders on programs and policy affecting youth and juvenile services; filling seats restores representation from business, parent and social-service perspectives.
Background and next steps: Birch said three openings are for full three-year terms (10/01/2025–09/30/2028), one opening is a partial term (through 09/30/2027), and one seat is specifically for a social service agency representative. Staff will re-advertise the remaining vacancy and return candidate information to supervisors by email prior to the formal meeting where the board will vote on appointments.
