District 26 Superintendent Dr. White to leave; board and community praise tenure

Superintendent Dr. White announced he is concluding his time leading District 26, and board members, staff and at least one parent used the June 30 board meeting to thank him for two years of service. Dr. White read a letter to the community saying, “As I prepare to conclude my time as superintendent of district 26, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the parents, families, students, and community members who have supported and partnered with our schools throughout this journey.”
The superintendent’s remarks listed recent accomplishments he attributed to the district’s collective work: the successful passage of a referendum; an expected resolution on the long-standing Maplewood property issue “hopefully, come July 15”; plans for a new transportation center; and a strengthened instructional framework. He wrote that the referendum “will lead to safer, more modern, and more inspiring learning environments for all our students.”
Resident Stephanie Schwall spoke during public comment and told the board she appreciates Dr. White’s leadership, saying she first met him when he arrived and that he is “really passionate about education.” Several board members echoed that appreciation during member comments. Board Member Catherine Potter thanked Dr. White for being responsive to the district’s needs and for mentoring students, and Board Member Stacy Salt said she admires him “very, very much as an educator and as an individual.”
Dr. White also named district staff he singled out as contributors, including Miss Rivera, Dr. Thomas, Mr. Shepherd, Mr. DeRue and Laura Dorfler, thanking them for partnership and support. He told the community he leaves “with full confidence in the leadership and staff of district 26 and in the strength of this community to continue advancing the important work that we've begun.”
The board did not take formal personnel action related to the superintendent’s departure during the open session. Members repeatedly thanked Dr. White and wished him well in his next role; several expressed confidence in the district’s administrative team going forward.
