Board approves petition to annex parcel adjoining future transportation center; construction bids expected in August

The Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution July 28 directing staff to petition the village to annex Parcel 19‑11‑176‑002, the smaller lot adjoining the district’s planned transportation center. Administration said the parcel was purchased earlier but had not been officially annexed into the village; annexation is required so the village may consider the district’s zoning petition for the full transportation center site. Mr. Shepherd told the board the village has the annexation and zoning matters on its Aug. 5 agenda. The district is accepting construction bids and hopes to present a contractor recommendation to the board in August; staff said (barring logjams) a fall groundbreaking is possible and the district is planning a move into the new facility in late spring of the following year depending on weather and supply chain factors such as transformer delays. The board approved the petition by motion and recorded unanimous votes among the members present. Administration described the annexation approval as largely a formality to simplify the permitting and zoning process with the village rather than working through county processes.
