Superintendent: PowerSchool data incident affected some records; district says State and vendor are assisting

District IT staff member Mr. Venturino explained that the district had stopped collecting Social Security numbers as the primary ID two years ago and now uses a nine‑digit statewide student ID; records collected earlier, he said, could have included SSNs for some historical records. Venturino said vendor and state IT teams are coordinating with the district to assess impacts and offer mitigation support, including free identity‑protection services in cases where personally identifiable information was involved.
Venturino told board members that PowerSchool communication to districts indicated the threat actors had deleted the files they acquired, and he said New Mexico districts appeared to have been less severely affected than some other states. Superintendent Carlson said the district would notify families and follow up if more detailed, student‑level impacts are identified.
