She said 20 students and five shop rooms are expected to attend; team fundraising and school travel funds will cover costs, and the advisor said they are confident they have sufficient funds. A board member suggested considering Johnson O’Malley (JOM) support for travel assistance in future cycles.
JROTC: Chief Rodriguez, senior army instructor at Kirtland Central High School, requested board approval to send up to 10 cadets to the annual leadership camp at Camp Navajo in Bellemont, Arizona; the cadets will tour Northern Arizona University while at the camp. Board members expressed support.
Purdue JERI gifted residential camp: Kate Morris, district gifted instructional coach, requested approval to take 30 identified gifted secondary students to Purdue University’s residential camp July 12–26, 2025. Morris said Purdue awarded the district a total of $128,250 in scholarships for this year’s camp. The trip will be funded from the gifted program operational budget; Morris provided a cost estimate of $29,139 total (approximately $971.30 per student) for travel, lodging and program fees. She said three district staff will chaperone and that students were selected via an application, GPA, attendance and essay rubric.
UNITY and Native American Day reports: Donovan Russell and Veronica Vicente reported on recent student participation at the UNITY mid‑year conference in Phoenix where 12 middle school students attended; advisors said students gained confidence and networking opportunities. Russell also reported 12 high school students attended Native American Day at the New Mexico State Capitol in Santa Fe; chaperones said students met lawmakers and the governor and found the experience impactful.
