District principals report graduation projections; testing updates and assessment planning discussed

Kirtland Central High School said it currently has 172 seniors with 166 on track to graduate in May; staff described targeted interventions and credit‑recovery options aimed at increasing the number who graduate on schedule.
Shiprock High School reported 123 seniors with 115 on track; trustees heard details about a small number of students working with outside providers (e.g., Graduation Alliance) or on other plans for timely completion. Newcomb High reported 56 seniors with most on track and one dropout since earlier counts.
Career Prep said it started the year with 45 seniors and had already seen 17 students complete graduation requirements earlier in the year; staff are supporting remaining students and noted one recent student fatality the school will commemorate at graduation.
Leandro Venturina, district testing coordinator, reviewed the district’s SAT school‑day participation and ACT options. He said SAT results (school day) from the spring testing window will be available in June; ACT is optional and administered several times per year with quicker result windows. The district is tracking SAT participation (about 91% completed as of that reporting) and expects state‑issued results in the early summer for use in placement, scholarships and reporting.
Principals also briefed the board on targeted supports to improve math outcomes and on attendance‑related credit recovery efforts. Trustees asked administrators to continue interventions aimed at getting more students across the finish line.
