Board reviews and clears several student trips: FFA, SkillsUSA, FCCLA and other CTSO requests
Summary
Multiple student trip requests for state and national competitions were presented; trustees heard student testimony and authorized travel requests on the consent agenda (including FFA state convention, SkillsUSA nationals, FCCLA national leadership conference and other CTSO events).
Central Consolidated trustees reviewed several unique trip requests from career‑technical student organizations and extracurricular groups and allowed students to speak in support of travel to state and national competitions.
Newcomb FFA students described livestock judging and agricultural projects; the chapter requested approval to take students to the New Mexico FFA state convention and agriscience fair in Las Cruces (May 26–30). Student representatives emphasized hands‑on learning and volunteer time they contribute; trustees praised the chapter’s rapid growth.
Bridal Wilson Tech requested approval to send qualifiers to the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in June; advisors said students are offsetting much of the cost through fundraising. Kirtland Central FCCLA asked to take qualifiers to the FCCLA national leadership conference in Orlando in July and presented student medalists and projects.
Administrators said trip funding will rely on a mix of student fundraising, Title I/JOM assistance where eligible, and district supports where allowed. Where trips required board approval they were included on the consent agenda; the board approved consent items that included these unique trip requests after minor amendments noted elsewhere on the agenda.
Students who spoke at the meeting described their projects and outcomes and thanked teachers and advisors for support; no binding fiscal commitments beyond routine approvals were enacted at the meeting.
