Signature concerns: A public commenter said she observed a board member's name on an NMSBA attendance clipboard while that person arrived late and claimed others had observed what appeared to be someone signing in for the member at multiple sessions. The speaker said staff responses to her inquiry were surprising and suggested the problem had recurred. The board did not take action during the meeting and staff noted they would follow up.
Scheduling and community coordination: Newcomb Middle School teacher Kristen Simo urged the district to align school calendars and chapter events with community youth leadership conferences and summer-employment programs so students are not forced to choose between school activities and community development opportunities. She asked the district to consider a stakeholder committee to reduce conflicts and maximize student participation.
Gifted program staffing: Cheryl George, a parent and former board member, said her daughter benefited from a dedicated middle-school gifted position that the district's recent staffing change had split between middle and high school. She urged the board to pause and reexamine the decision, saying the split diluted the program's effectiveness at a critical developmental stage. Board members acknowledged receiving the comments and said staffing and program decisions are influenced by budgets, licensure and student-data needs; staff said the district would review the concerns in light of student outcomes and equity obligations.
