The O'Fallon Township High School District 203 Board of Education voted to appoint Dennis Isom to the district board and administered the oath of office to new and returning members.
The board president moved to appoint Dennis Isom; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. After the vote the board administered the oath of office to the newly appointed member and other members present. The oath required each board member to swear to faithfully discharge duties under the U.S. and Illinois constitutions and state law, protect district assets, respect free expression while protecting student and employee privacy, and accept that individual board members have no legal authority outside majority public action.
Board members present joined the new member at the front of the room as the superintendent or designee read the oath and each responded "I do" to the statements. The board president congratulated the new member and thanked those who agreed to serve.
The appointment was taken as a formal action by motion and roll-call vote during the meeting; the board then proceeded with scheduled administrative reports.
The appointment does not itself alter any policies or budgets; it fills a board seat so the board can carry on its regular duties. Documentation of the oath and the appointment will be recorded in district minutes and personnel records.
