The New Haven Board of Education voted Aug. 25 to appoint Alicia Perrin as assistant superintendent for instructional leadership and school improvement. The appointment was included in the superintendent’s personnel report and approved by the board.
Superintendent Madeline Negron presented Perrin’s background, noting Perrin began teaching in 2002 and has held roles including site coordinator for the Lighthouse program, co‑facilitator of a New Teacher Academy, assistant principal and principal, and interim superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools in November 2022. Negron said Perrin holds a master’s degree and advanced certification in educational administration and has participated in national and international fellowships related to school leadership and equity.
Board Member Matt Wilcox moved to approve the superintendent’s personnel report; the motion was seconded and the board discussed Perrin’s record. Dr. Joiner commended Perrin’s “outstanding trajectory” and cited her experience with urban education and ethical leadership. Perrin briefly addressed the board, thanking members and saying she looked forward to supporting students and the community.
Vote and next steps: The motion to approve the personnel report, which included Perrin’s appointment, carried by the affirmative votes of members present. The administration will proceed with onboarding Perrin to the posted assistant superintendent role and integrate her into instructional leadership activities.
