Jan Korts, speaking for neighbors, said the intersection is heavily used by students, walkers and park users and that the stop sign had been in place for decades. “Not necessary doesn't always equal not needed,” Korts said, urging the council to reinstall the sign or consider other traffic calming measures such as speed bumps. Borough staff responded that removal of the stop sign was not a unilateral borough action but was tied to a school signal project and subsequent review by PennDOT. A staff member said the borough has contacted PennDOT to request any traffic studies or documentation supporting the change and would engage the school district after gathering records. Why it matters: Residents described repeated high speeds in an area with substantial pedestrian and school‑age foot traffic and asked for tangible mitigation to reduce crash risk. The council said it is investigating and will keep residents informed; no ordinance or traffic control change was approved or enacted during the meeting.
