Council approves IRR residential redevelopment grant application for demolition work

The Hibbing City Council on June 4 approved a resolution authorizing staff to apply for $16,746 in Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation (IRRR) residential redevelopment funds to support the city’s demolition program.
Building official Pat Green told council the proposed grant application covers demolition of six structures—three garages, one house and two small cabin-like structures—and that four of the addressed properties will be rebuilt as garages. Green requested council adoption of the resolution so the grant application could be submitted; council approved the resolution by voice vote (Resolution 250602).
The action authorizes staff to submit the application and to accept grant funds if awarded. Staff did not present demolition contracts or project schedules at the meeting; those will be brought back for council action if the grant is awarded and/or contracts are required.
