County repurposes campus equipment and books; schools and library pick up specialized items

Committee members reported ongoing removal and redistribution of campus materials, including lab tables, laboratory equipment, shelving, projectors and books, to local school districts and the rural library.
Brandon Federle and representatives from Ithaca Schools inspected the Science Building and removed items they said would be useful to their science program. Committee members described physics lab equipment left behind that some districts cannot use due to enrollment constraints, and said they were reaching out to neighboring districts to identify additional takers.
The rural library took shelving, tables, projectors, a smart board and books for programming and a landscaping project. Committee members also described large piles of rock removed from building roofs that the library plans to use for summer landscaping.
The campus foundation, represented by Greg Zimmerman, is coordinating the potential donation of a specialized plotting/printing machine; the committee said foundation members have contacted a retired geology professor and are seeking a printing company or school that could accept the equipment and associated software.
No formal votes were taken on redistribution; staff and volunteers are continuing to inventory items and match them with recipient organizations.
