County approves $97,171 bid to replace courthouse boilers, funds from capital fund if needed

The Richland County Board of Supervisors on June 10 accepted a bid from Precision to replace two boilers in the courthouse for $97,171 and authorized drawing funds from fund 75 to 92 if needed.
Public Works presented the bid after the standing committee met immediately before the county board meeting. The resolution states the accepted bid amount is $97,171 and that funds to pay for the replacement may come from fund 75 to 92 if necessary. Board members noted they were fortunate the boiler failure occurred in spring rather than in colder months.
During discussion, staff clarified the action will replace two boilers (not repair) and that the proposed units are cast-iron models at roughly 88 percent efficiency; the vendor will supply newer models of the same brand. The motion to accept the bid was made by Supervisor Gill and seconded by Supervisor Kramer and approved by voice vote.
Supervisor Maguire asked whether other county boilers will need replacement; staff did not identify additional immediate replacements during the meeting. The resolution is effective upon passage and publication, and Public Works will proceed with contracting and installation.
