The Marlington Local School District recognized 43 college students who received the annual Folk scholarship, a renewable award funded by an endowment from the Folk family.
A district presenter explained the scholarship honors students who show academic promise, leadership and community service. The board and district staff called students forward individually and presented checks; the treasurer confirmed the awards were paid from the scholarship fund.
District materials said each of the 43 recipients received $1,500; board members and staff applauded the students and thanked the Folk family for their support. The awards were ceremonial recognition at the start of the board meeting and did not require board action beyond the usual disbursement of scholarship funds.
The event gave the board and community a chance to celebrate recent graduates now attending college and underscored private-support contributions that supplement district scholarship programs.
