Natural Resources Committee OKs forwarding rezone and conditional-use requests for two parcels to county board

The Natural Resources Committee voted to send a petition to rezone two parcels from agricultural/forest to commercial — and to consider two conditional‑use permits to allow additional short‑term rental units and an event space — to the county board for final action. Committee members voted in favor during the committee’s August meeting and instructed staff to package the applications for the county board agenda.

The rezone petition covers both parcels currently zoned agricultural/forest; the applicant seeks commercial zoning to allow an event space and two additional short‑term rental units, one on each parcel. A committee member noted the applicants already have residential units on each parcel and that the short‑term rentals would be “additional residences.” Another member said the applicants and staff have been working on plumbing and sanitation to address septic capacity.

The committee heard that the township had signed off on the request and that notices to adjacent landowners had been handled; no members of the public appeared to speak on the item during the committee meeting. The committee’s motion passed on a voice vote and staff said the items are scheduled to appear before the county board on the nineteenth of the month for final consideration. Staff also said they believed septic and sanitary issues had been addressed sufficiently to move the application forward.

Because the county board will make the final zoning decision, the rezone and conditional‑use permits are not yet final. The committee’s action forwards the applications and supporting materials to the county board for its review and vote.
