City planner Amy Barrows told the commission the sign complies with size limits and that the primary sign would be channel letters mounted to an aluminum backer panel — not channel letters on a raceway — and that the applicant had provided photometrics and durable materials. Lees described the sign materials as "an aluminum backer board with a vinyl face" and said the letters would be "silver trim caps, white acrylic faces, and aluminum returns." She also confirmed the letters are internally lit.
Commission discussion noted prior local flexibility on signage rules and that the mall area had previously approved nonstandard backer panels; Barrows said the proposed sign is consistent with the recently loosened approach to improve aesthetics.
