Kurt’s Steakhouse approved to replace entry; dumpster enclosure and ROW parking agreement required

The Plan Commission approved site improvements for Kurt’s Steakhouse on West Main Street on June 25, allowing replacement of the deteriorating front entry and associated siding repairs while imposing conditions on dumpster enclosure and on‑street parking agreements.

Applicant Mark Beers said the restaurant’s existing ramp and stair at the west entrance are in poor condition and need replacement. The proposed project replaces the entry, adds a coat closet and stair/ramp configuration consistent with the building, and repairs siding to match the existing cedar shake appearance. Planning staff said the addition complies with modified setback rules for nonconforming buildings and the addition meets the ordinance standards.

Because some parking currently occurs in the street right‑of‑way near the site, the city administrator requested an agreement between the applicant and the city regarding parking within the West Main Street right‑of‑way. The commission required the applicant to enter that agreement before final inspection (the applicant and staff agreed to make the timing prior to final inspection rather than prior to permit issuance). The commission also required the applicant to submit a dumpster enclosure plan for staff review and to implement the enclosure by Oct. 1, 2025; the applicant agreed to work with staff to draw the improvements on a scaled survey for the city record.

Commissioners approved the entryway and related site plan improvements with the listed conditions. Staff will coordinate the final drawings and the parking agreement.
