The Plan Commission on July 30 approved a treated cedar shadow‑box fence, 6 feet tall, along the south side of the Commodore overflow parking lot, rejecting the applicant’s original proposal for an 8‑foot fence.
Ramona and Dan Kummer, listed on the agenda as owners of the parcel (applicant represented by design staff), sought to replace the existing black mesh screening with a wood fence to make the lot look more finished and to match the screening on the other side of the street. Amy Barrows, the city planner, said the lot’s earlier approval included mesh fencing; the applicant asked to replace that material with wood. The commission agreed the fence should be “natural appearing” but opted to limit the height to 6 feet, the standard maximum in residential districts and consistent with typical City of Delafield practice.
Peter Damsgaard, who worked on the project materials, noted the parking area will remain primarily for employees and for limited overflow use; the applicants said the area is used roughly 12 percent of the time. Several commissioners said a 6‑foot cedar fence would accomplish the applicants’ aesthetic goal while keeping the structure consistent with local standards and preserving sight lines.
The motion approved the cedar fence as shown on the submitted plans, at 6 feet tall, in the location and length depicted on the applicant’s drawings. The commission recorded the vote by voice and approved the item.
Next steps: the applicant will proceed with installation under the city’s standard permitting requirements.
