Pepper Pike, Ohio — The Communications Committee reported June 24 that it is exploring audio-video upgrades for council meetings, website improvements and the possibility of adding staff to manage communications and online content.
Committee members said they heard from an audio-video consultant about options such as fixed cameras, split-screen displays and automated systems that track speakers so the meeting stream requires less manual camera switching. Committee members noted those systems can reduce operator costs but also raise complexity and may require dedicated personnel to run and maintain them.
Committee members discussed the OWL-style systems used by some nonprofits that automatically focus on the active speaker. Committee members said some organizations like that system and others later opt for higher-end solutions; the consultant said both approaches have users and trade-offs.
The committee also discussed improvements to the city website to make agendas, minutes and presentations easier to find and suggested using the city’s email distribution list to broaden awareness of committee vacancies. The committee recommended sending a city email announcing the new application window for committee volunteers to reach residents who do not regularly visit the website.
