City officials updated the Stonecrest council on Aug. 25 about Georgia Department of Transportation work affecting Farrington Road and nearby infrastructure. Mayor Jasmine Cobble and staff said the bridge work at Hillandale and Farrington is nearly complete and that DOT has committed to repaving Farrington Road and installing new fencing. Officials also said the MARTA stop at that location will be relocated slightly farther from the roadway so riders are not disembarking directly onto the street.
“We asked them to push that back, so that when riders are getting off the bus, they're not being dumped off right onto the street,” Mayor Cobble said, summarizing discussions with DOT and county and state representatives who participate in quarterly coordination calls. The city manager added that sidewalks will be installed on Farrington using a county CDBG grant and that the combined work will include a new bridge, fencing, sidewalks and repaving once the bridge is complete, expected in the upcoming quarter.
Councilmembers raised longstanding lighting concerns at the intersection of Woodrow and Lithonia Industrial Boulevard (LIB) and under the Evans Mill bridge. Staff said those locations have been repeatedly raised with DOT in quarterly meetings and that the city will continue to press DOT to restore or install lighting at those locations. Council members encouraged residents to follow TIPS committee meetings for background on infrastructure planning and scheduling.
No formal council action was required; staff characterized this as a status update on intergovernmental coordination with DOT and DeKalb County.
