District to pay one-time $1,000 custodian supplement using state funds and general fund

The Cahuilla County Board of Education approved a one-time custodian supplement of $1,000 per eligible custodian at its Aug. 12 meeting. The Georgia Department of Education will provide $167,000 toward the supplements; the district will cover the remaining approximately $17,082 from the general fund, officials said.
District staff explained that the supplements will be paid on the Aug. 22, 2025 biweekly payroll and will be paid to active custodians listed on the Aug. 8 payroll. ‘‘Custodians who have resigned or have been terminated prior to the payment of the custodial supplement will not be eligible for the one-time supplement,’’ Dr. Horton said. The supplements are subject to federal FICA, Medicare and state tax withholdings; total custodian-supplement cost was presented as approximately $184,082.
The board approved the payment 6-0. Administration said the state-provided funds must be used to fund the supplement and that the district would cover the remaining cost from the general fund.
