AWARDS AND PROJECTS: Staff recommended the commission approve the following awards: $9,067 to Bentley Court Community Association for a multi‑phase, half‑acre wildlife corridor along Winslow Road (native plantings, removal of invasives, professional landscape design in phase one); $2,928 to the Blue Ridge Neighborhood Association to add “Blue Ridge” to an existing wrought‑iron gate at the North Walnut Street entrance; and $10,000 to the Prospect Hill Neighborhood Association to hire restoration professionals to repair headstones and monuments at Rose Veil Cemetery and to fund five public workshops led by Monroe County History Center volunteers.
MATCH AND BUDGET CONTEXT: Staff said the program requires at least a 10% local match and that applicants exceeded that requirement. The 2025 program budget set aside up to $30,000; the three recommended awards totaled about $22,000, leaving funds available for other neighborhood investments this year, including an additional neighborhood cleanup and a trailer stocked with equipment for neighborhood events.
VOTE: The commission approved the resolution by unanimous voice vote.
Ending: Staff said Prospect Hill will invite the Near West Side Neighborhood Association to participate in restoration workshops and that staff will examine whether local nonprofits could help smaller neighborhoods without established associations apply for future grant rounds.
