Commission approves change‑order package No. 5 for Hopewell East, adds roughly $91,490 to contract

The Redevelopment Commission approved change‑order package No. 5 for the Hopewell East construction contract on Aug. 4, 2025, adding $91,489.78 in contract changes and six calendar days to final completion. City engineering representative Roy Aiden said the original contract award was $13,373,284.90; prior change orders totaled $543,904.11. The new package increases the contract and, after accounting for all changes, staff reported an updated final contract amount (as read during the meeting) and added six days to the work timeline. Aiden described the RDC’s share of the package as $51,627.54; the Parks department covers a repair to the Beeline trail portion ($606,814.86 listed for a separate parks repair earlier in discussion), and other fund allocations include $6,814.86 charged to the parts department and $33,047.38 to a Second Street 2022 GO bond that needs the connection work. One change order addressed ADA ramp and sidewalk corrections; staff said the design consultant will reimburse the city for plan errors related to that $4,213.25 item. Commissioners praised engineering for coordinating design consultant accountability and approved the change order package (resolution 25‑101) unanimously. Staff said including necessary Second Street storm connection work now avoids later re‑excavation; if soils or other discoveries require additional disposal or handling, separate contracting and funding will be required.
