Liberty Elementary students present school news crew; Mishawaka Education Foundation announces grants

Liberty Elementary students and staff presented a short sample of their student-produced news program and described school leadership and extracurricular activities at the School City of Mishawaka board meeting on March 5.
Student presenters introduced themselves and described the school’s student lighthouse team, leadership opportunities and extracurriculars such as robotics, volleyball and track. Principal Missus Wilson and teacher Missus Wells highlighted recent events and academic gains; Wells said Liberty students have read millions of words on the district reading platform Amira and reported an 18% increase in iRead scores from the prior year.
During the public-comments portion, a representative of the Mishawaka Education Foundation (MEF) announced three recent grants: an $8,100 grant for a VO2 max machine to support Mishawaka High School science classes, a $5,000 grant for the One Day in the Sun mental-health event, and the ongoing Major Saver fundraiser that will be sold digitally at the end of the month. The MEF speaker asked the community to promote and purchase the program cards.
Board members thanked the student presenters and staff for hosting the meeting at Liberty and acknowledged the MEF grants.
