Board approves safety plan, security services contract, hires and surplus equipment in consent agenda

The Dubuque School District Board of Education approved multiple routine and recommended items in its consent agenda, including the district's 2025'26 safety plan, several personnel appointments, a contract for school security services and the authorization to declare two vehicles surplus. Board members voted to approve the superintendent's recommendation for the safety plan for the 2025'26 school year. The motion carried by voice vote. As part of the consent agenda the board approved hiring two new teachers identified in the minutes as Catherine Dixon and Danielle McKellen (special education and ELA assignments noted in the personnel listing), and welcomed Sarah Enecks in an assignment noted in the minutes. The board also approved a motion to declare a 2014 Ford F-250 and a 2007 Chevy dump truck as surplus equipment and to dispose of them according to district policy. On the recommendation of the superintendent the board approved contracting with Allied Universal (listed in the meeting as Universal Protection/Allied Universal Security Services) for school security services. That motion also passed by voice vote. Other consent items approved included the district comprehensive improvement plan for 2025'26 and the multi-tiered system of supports (including academic intervention services and positive behavioral interventions) as presented at the June 17, 2025 meeting. The board approved a request from the Western York Christian Foundation for the Performing Arts Festival Chorus granting nonprofit status for the event and waiving facility fees for designated spaces. All consent items were approved by voice vote with the chair announcing "Aye. Motion carried."
