Board raises salary range for school psychologists to recruit and retain staff

The School City of Mishawaka Board of School Trustees voted June 11 to amend the 2024-25 employee handbook to increase the approved salary range for school psychologists.
Under the approved amendment, the district will change the salary range for school psychologists from the current $50,000-$75,000 range to a new $60,000-$85,000 range, effective immediately.
District administrators told the board that the change is intended to address recruitment and retention difficulties caused by a nationwide shortage of school psychologists and private-sector competition that can offer higher compensation. The administration said it will include the new range in the 2025-26 handbook update and begin recruiting immediately at the higher scale.
The board moved, seconded and approved the amendment by voice vote. No roll-call of individual board member votes was read into the record.
