Board approves legislative cleanup to remove licensure fee for repealed portfolio pathway

Brent Nelson, legislative and regulatory specialist, explained the change was housekeeping following Sunset Bill amendments to Business and Professions Code section 16.32 that struck the portfolio‑pathway subdivisions. Nelson told the board the requested amendment would remove statutory fee language that no longer applies.
“...we are fixing and updating the language,” Nelson said as he described the proposal.
A motion to submit the proposal to amend Business and Professions Code section 17.24(a) to remove the dentist‑licensure fee for the repealed portfolio pathway was made, seconded and approved by roll call.
Why it matters: The action is legislative cleanup that aligns statute and fee language with the current licensure pathways after last year’s sunset bill changes. It does not create a new policy or change existing licensure requirements beyond removing the obsolete fee reference.
Next steps: Staff will forward the proposal to the Legislature for consideration.
